The time has come to support the arts! After a whole year without any craft fairs, theater events, and other platforms where the creativity of our artists is put on display, we are committed to strengthening our people’s values through the arts and humanities. Cortés Chocolate joins forces with La Borinqueña so we can keep expanding our cultural and educational programs.
Every time you purchase a bar of Cortés Chocolate, part of that income goes to Fundación Cortés, and you will get one of four limited edition La Borinqueña comic books.

La Borinqueña is an original character and comic book featuring a Puerto Rican Afro-descendant female superhero, created by award-winning graphic novelist and philanthropist Edgardo Miranda-Rodríguez and published independently through his studio, Somos Arte. In 2017, as a response to Hurricane María, he published the critically acclaimed anthology Ricanstruction: Reminiscing and Rebuilding Puerto Rico, and its sales helped establish the scholarship program El Programa de Becas La Borinqueña, helmed by his partner Kyung Jeon-Miranda. Every year, scholarships are awarded to nonprofit organizations in Puerto Rico that are committed to rebuilding and revitalizing the island. These scholarships have financed development areas for underage children, the arts, women’s health, environmental justice, and sustainable agriculture.
The philanthropic character of La Borinqueña shines a light on solutions developed by the community through a series of fundraising initiatives and collaborations with international artists, brands, and exhibitions. Inspired by the superhero of the original graphic novel, the scholarship program also celebrates and vies to preserve our Afro-Puerto Rican legacy, envisioning an island that is self-sufficient and successful. www.la-borinquena.com
